One Dollar Shock Can Produce Different Market Reactions
The same dollar impulse can travel through oil, gold, Bitcoin and equities by different channels.

Risk-off is market shorthand for a period of elevated risk aversion, not a rule that every so-called safe haven must move the same way.
A risk-off environment is a market setting in which uncertainty or risk aversion rises and investors often reduce exposure to assets perceived as risky while increasing demand for liquidity or assets perceived as safer. The exact cross-asset response remains conditional on the shock and market structure.
Risk aversion can affect the dollar, Treasury markets, credit, equities, gold, Bitcoin, and other assets through different channels, so the label is useful only when paired with evidence about what investors are actually doing.
During a stress episode, demand for liquid dollar funding and Treasury securities may rise while some risk assets weaken, yet gold or particular currencies can behave differently depending on real yields, funding needs, and the nature of the shock.
Treating “risk-off” as an automatic one-direction basket in which the dollar, Treasuries, gold, CHF, JPY, equities, and Bitcoin must all follow a fixed script.
Use risk-off as a description of behavior and conditions, then verify the actual cross-asset transmission instead of assuming it.
